Folsom’s
Run with Nature Turns Over A New Leaf
What’s new in 2010? Everything!
New
youth, 5K and 10K courses – plus a fun obstacle course
challenge.
This year marks a lot of exciting “firsts” for the 27th
annual Run with Nature on May 15 – a new location for the
post-race festivities, new 5K and 10K courses, a new youth
run, and the addition of an obstacle course challenge.
What haven’t changed are the elements that have made this
event a favorite tradition for so many people: the beautiful
scenery, the great trails, and the family-friendly format.
This year, Folsom City Lions Park serves as the setting
for the start and finish of the races and the post-race
festivities. Highlights of what you’ll experience are listed
below. There’s a lot to do after the run, also: enjoy the
Zoo Sanctuary, visit the Folsom Library, pick up lunch
at an area restaurant, or simply kick back and relax in
the park. Make a day of it!
10K Course:
The new 10K provides
runners with a challenging course and lots of fantastic
scenery. The run begins on roads closed to traffic and
transitions to paved trails. Over the course of the run,
participants will climb 1 to 5% grades, enjoy views of
Folsom Lake and the American River Canyon from the new
Folsom Lake Crossing, and run along the beautiful American
River Bike Trail.
5K Course:
This year, 5K runners and
walkers start separately from the 10K event and have their
own unique route. The out-and-back loop course begins on
closed roads and quickly transitions to paved trails along
the scenic American River Parkway. The historic wood-plank
Truss Bridge serves as a gateway to and from the trail
segments of the course. The route is suitable for runners
and walkers of all abilities.
Youth Run Course:
This free
half-mile fun run for ages 12 and under includes free youth
admission to the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary the day of the run.
The route is entirely contained within the park and Zoo
Sanctuary, making it easy for parents to watch and cheer.
The course is fast, fun, and fabulous; what other time
do you get to run through the center of the Zoo Sanctuary
without someone telling you to “walk, please!”?
The Wild
Way Course:
This challenging obstacle course is an entirely
new part of the Run with Nature fun! Tackle it solo or
take the pack approach with family and friends and help
each other complete the course. You can select the Wild
Way as your main event or add it on after the 5K, 10K or
youth run. The course is a 2+ mile crazy rollercoaster
of a run, traveling over grass, gravel, pavement, and dirt;
up and down hills and stairs; over fences and under barricades;
through chutes; over logs spanning a mud moat; and through
the Zoo Sanctuary.
